Abu Dhabi residents will no longer receive hard copies of water and electricity bills as part of efforts to protect the environment.
Bills will be entirely electronic from May 1 and be sent via text message, email, the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) mobile app or the website.
ADDC said it issues eight million bills a year. It said sending them electronically instead of by paper copy will save the equivalent of 1,500 trees.
“We will migrate all our customers to electronic bills starting from May, as part of our digital transformation journey,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, managing director of ADDC.
“Most of our customers prefer electronic channels now, as they can get more details about their consumption, whether it is in the green or red band, the actual cost of the water and electricity they consume, as well as accessing quick and easy payment options.”
Elderly and special needs customers will continue to receive paper bills if they choose to.
