ABU DHABI // A Frenchman was trapped for almost four hours after accidentally falling into a 25-metre well on Saturday morning.

M N, 34, was driving off-road near an agricultural area in Al Khuraima when his vehicle became stuck in sand at about 3am.

He wandered about in search of a wooden plank to use as a lever, but trespassed on to the private farm between Al Ain and Abu Dhabi city. He later fell down the well, which was filled with five metres of water.

It was not until later that morning that one of the farm’s labourers found him and called the police.

M N managed to stay above water by holding on to a water-pumping pipe.

Rescue teams – including Civil Defence, an ambulance and patrol vehicles – were dispatched to rescue him.
