ABU DHABI // Steps taken to continue improving the capital’s urban areas have seen 78 billboards taken down and four offenders warned about using illegal signs in Al Wathba.
Signboards have been clustering streets and roundabouts in the area, prompting Abu Dhabi City Municipality to lead a fresh clean-up campaign.
Municipality officers have been reminding businesses about the regulations governing the use of public facilities and streets, and the need for official approval before erecting signage.
This latest action follows work in April, when several areas of Al Shamkha were targeted by officials and police.
A copy of proposed signs must be provided by businesses to the municipal centre along with the locations of the signs and duration of use, before raising any advertising boards.
The civic body also highlighted the importance of using high quality signboards that conform with standards, media identity, and the cultural nature of streets and cities.
