Emirates Red Crescent to widen relief efforts

The humanitarian organisation launched a new logo and hopes to raise the profile of its work.

The Emirates Red Crescent launched a new logo on Monday – and the charity hopes its reinvented identity will improve awareness of its humanitarian work.

“We want to inspire a sense of giving and support, heightening moral values and bringing the community together,” said Dr Mohammed Atiq Al Falahy, secretary general of the Emirates Red Crescent.

“The new identity serves to integrate the support of all the seven emirates into one unified action, representing the goodwill of the people of the UAE towards needy people in the region and beyond.”

Dr Al Falahy said the new identity reflected the long-term vision of Emirates Red Crescent as it aims to reach out to a wider section of those in need, especially those in disaster areas and conflict zones.

“We aim to showcase that Emirates Red Crescent will continue to deliver the outstanding relief efforts it has been providing over the years,” he said.

Funds have been allocated to support those in need in the UAE and abroad and, in particular, those fleeing violence in Syria.

One project involved the creation of a camp in Jordan that provides medical treatment and accommodation – including schools, hospitals and caravans – for 5,000 people.

An upcoming relief effort is a Ramadan campaign featuring the slogan “Your Generosity Enlightens Their Lives”.

The initiative will coordinate the distribution of iftar meals, clothing and other charitable donations over the holy month.

“Emirates Red Crescent is committed to the development and expansion of its key relief works to help the vulnerable segments of the society with the support of benefactors and residents of the UAE,” said Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri, deputy secretary general for local affairs.

“We want to thank our partners from different companies and institutions who have expanded on their social responsibility to not just benefit members of the society in the UAE, but also those in need of support overseas.”
