DUBAI // More than 63,000 seats for students in the emirate are expected in 27 new private schools by September 2016.

Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development authority said this would bring Dubai’s private school capacity to reach more than 341,000 students in at least 196 private schools.

Mohammed Darwish, chief of regulations and permits commission at the authority, said that the new schools would create competitiveness among schools in the emirate, in turn benefitting parents.

“This will help in reaching the emirate’s goal of having 360,000 seats by 2020,” said Kalthoom Al Balooshi, executive director of education development at KHDA.

Eighty-seven per cent of the total available seats at Dubai private schools are occupied by students, the KHDA said, according to the state news agency, Wam.
