ABU DHABI // Four private villa schools have been shut down by the Abu Dhabi Education Council, so that pupils can be moved to more appropriate buildings.

Al Fajr English School, Gulf Buds Private School, Salah Uddin Private school and the Philippine National School received warning at the beginning of the school year in 2013 that they must close.

The parents were given enough time to enrol their children in other schools.

The closures are part of a programme to shut all villa schools by next year. There are 18 more yet to close.

The initiative is managed by Adec to help to encourage private schools to operate in appropriate buildings.

Parents were notified of the closures through letters, emails and mobile messages, giving them the time register their children elsewhere.
