Children belonging to a special needs club in Dubai will benefit from a donation of Dh250,000 thanks to the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department.
Cash offered to the Khor Fakkan Special Needs Club will help pay for two buses to transport children to events in Dubai and further afield.
It organises events supporting people with special needs, including an international weightlifting competition and a blind football championship.
Jumaa Obaid Al Falasi, CEO of the charitable work sector, said: “As part of IACAD’s functions and goals, we spare no effort to develop charitable work and support philanthropic and community projects and initiatives.
“Special needs are an important category in our community and we should support and take care of them.”
The club is part of the Dubai Hands initiative and aims to prove to society that being handicapped is an ability, not a disability.
Donations were collected from zakat and charity funds through channels provided by IACAD, and also contributes towards other charitable projects at home and abroad.
