An unemployed father in Sharjah has spoken of his "huge relief" when the Indian Community Welfare Committee (ICWC) helped to pay his daughter's school fees.

"We had approached the fund for help," said AK, who lost his job with an insurance company almost two years ago.

"We submitted a letter from the school to the ICWC, requesting them to pay tuition fees, which were pending for the past eight months."

AK said his wife's salary was not sufficient to pay the Dh6,100 annual fees. "They paid the school directly within a month. Several families like me are reeling under financial problems. But not everyone knows about the fund," he said.
