DUBAI // Twenty pest control companies have been issued warnings in Dubai this year by authorities.

Hisham Abdul Rahman, head of pest control section at Dubai Municipality said, “the civic body, since the beginning of 2014, has executed 55 inspection campaigns to combat the problem of insects in developers’ residential compounds.

Another 228 random campaigns have been carried out in different places that resulted in 20 warnings being issued to the pest control companies.” He said that most of those in breach of their standards are given warnings — with no fines being levied.

Mr Abdulla from the pest control section said that the main cause was the irresponsible attitude of villa owners who leave their swimming pools and fountains unattended for long periods of time when they are away from home, where different types of insects breed and multiply.

“There is a unified system to inspect the places where flying insects, especially blood sucking insects, are found, in addition to the inspection in the areas of developers,” he said.

“Our surveys prove that the pest control operations are generally highly efficient, ”he explained.

“A local order gives the municipality the authority to monitor and control all pest control operations in Dubai to maintain the public health and safety,” he added.
