An Emirati student who carried out a night club attack which left a man in a coma has been jailed for a year.
The Saudi victim, 36, suffered a brain haemorrhage after being slapped to the ground at the entrance to the venue in Al Barsha.
Dubai Criminal Court heard that the offender, 21, struck the man after he bumped into him at about 1.30am on June 19 of last year.
The clubgoer was rushed to hospital, where he under went brain surgery.
Doctors said he lost his hearing completely and struggles to maintain his balance as a result of the incident.
The man was convicted of physical assault by the court.
He has two weeks to appeal the sentence.
