DUBAI // An Emirati student, convicted of failing to report the deaths of two citizens due to overdose and with taking drugs herself, will have her case examined by the Appeals Court next month.

The Criminal Court had sentenced the woman and a third defendant to four years in jail and she was fined Dh1,000 for failing to inform the authorities about the deaths, stating that she thought the deceased were asleep.

The deceased men had agreed with the other two defendants to go out to a club, and they brought drugs that they agreed to take at home before heading out. But two of them overdosed.

According to Al Ittihad, The National's sister publication, a major at the anti-narcotics department in Dubai Police reported that upon arriving at the scene, he found one of the two deceased sitting on a chair with his head on a nearby table. The second man was lying on the floor in the bedroom. The woman was trembling in fear as she woke up to find her friends dead.

She had asked a friend to pick her up, but her friend refused to help her and to get involved when she realised what had happened. She then called one of the men’s friends to help her. He arrived to the apartment then called one of the dead men’s brothers who then reported the incident to the authorities.
