Dubai Police arrest woman carrying 5kg of heroin

DUBAI// A Pakistani woman was arrested as she delivered more then five kilogrammes of heroin to a Nigerian man who was under surveillance by anti-narcotics officers, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Prosecutors said officers were tipped off that Nigerian A A, who was in the country on a visit visa, was dealing in drugs. The 33-year-old was under surveillance on November 3 last year when he was seen meeting with 40-year-old S R, who was also visiting the country.

“We were tipped off about him then a few days later while we kept him under our eyes we received new information that he was awaiting a new drug shipment from a woman,” said Emirati police captain A R, 42.

The officer said A A met S R at a park in Naif. The two talked for a short time before the woman handed A A a large bag.

“He was walking and looking around for her and she was doing the same until they met. They spoke and she handed him the bag. At that point we arrested them,” said A R.

The bag was found to contain more 5,544kg of heroin hidden inside a set of accessories.

Prosecutors charged A A and S R with possessing heroin to sell. They both denied the charge in court.

The next hearing will be on March 17.
