An unemployed man wanted over 32 cases of fraud amounting to about Dh3 million has been caught in Dubai after two years of evading police.

The man, who is accused of defaulting on personal loans, among other accusations, was arrested late at night near his home in the Al Tawar area after a police ambush, according to The National's Arabic sister newspaper, Al Ittihad.

"He is implicated in many financial cases filed against him [by banks and companies] in all the emirates, except Ras Al Khaimah," said Col Ahmed Thani bin Ghalita, head of the counter-crime department in Dubai.

The man has settled part of his debts in 14 cases but is still in default in the remaining 18. He will be kept in custody pending legal proceedings.
