DUBAI // A man accused of trying to steal a woman’s bracelets was found not guilty by Dubai Criminal Court.

The 35-year-old Ethiopian man had been accused of trying to pull gold bracelets from a woman’s wrist while she was walking with her husband and child in Al Rafaa.

When he appeared in court last April, the man denied charges of forceful theft and attempted theft.

Prosecutors had said he attacked the Indian woman walking near Dubai Museum with her family on November 11 last year. The husband was carrying their daughter when he heard his wife scream.

“I looked and saw a man trying to pull her bracelets,” he told prosecutors.

He said that when he put his child down to help his wife, the Ethiopian snatched an envelope from his pocket.

“The envelope contained Dh2,800 and 9,400 Indian rupees,” said the husband, who chased and caught the man with help of passers-by.

The husband called police, who arrested the accused, but no money was found on him, the court heard.
