DUBAI // Dubai Cares has distributed 50,000 school kits in Gaza as part of its “Rebuild Palestine. Start with Education” campaign.

The kits, which include stationery, pens, pencils and sharpeners, were distributed to primary school pupils through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, one of its partners in Palestine.

The charity has a number of continuing programmes in Palestine, aimed to support children’s access to education, and to alleviate the effects of the conflict on the student population.

“Despite the fact that these children live under hazardous conditions, the people of the UAE strongly felt that they deserved the same educational opportunities as their peers in other parts of the world,” said Tariq Al Gurg, chief executive officer of Dubai Cares.

In addition to the present campaign, Dubai Cares launched a Dh11 million programme last October with the UNRWA to alleviate the effects that the 2014 military conflict had on the education sector in Gaza. Part of the programme includes the construction of a 20-classroom school that will provide 1,500 students access to primary and lower secondary education.
