DUBAI // A Dubai Airport baggage handler who was accused of stealing a piece of candy worth Dh2 from a passenger’s luggage has been found not guilty.

The Dubai Criminal Court acquitted PJ, 25, from India, of a charge of theft, which he denied when he appeared in court earlier this month.

“I’m not guilty,” he told the presiding judge on September 2.

Prosecutors said that on June 15 this year PJ was seen opening a passenger’s bag as he loaded luggage into an Emirates plane and taking the candy.

Emirati AA, 29, a security supervisor, testified that his boss was watching on CCTV cameras and saw the handler as he opened some bags he was loading into a plane.

“My boss reported him to police and PJ was arrested,” said AA.

Prosecutors said PJ confessed to stealing the candy, but in court he denied it and the court acquitted him of the charge.
