Drunk man who choked Dubai Policemen after exposing himself is jailed

The man was referred to Dubai Court of Misdemeanours to face charges of breaching the modesty of two women, committing an act of indecency, insulting the women and consuming alcohol without a license

A man who exposed himself to two sisters then assaulted two police officers who were trying to arrest him will spend a year in jail.

On September 16, 2016, the two women – whose ages and nationalities were not disclosed in court records – were returning to their flat in Dubai when the Ugandan defendant, 38, exposed himself to them and insulted them.

Dubai Criminal Court was told that the man and the sisters lived in the same building in Tecom, but had never spoken to each other.

The sisters reported the incident to police, telling them they suspected the man was drunk. Police arrived at the scene, but the man had fled.

"We went to his flat and found him heavily drunk and tried to calm him down," said a 23-year-old Emirati policeman.
He said the defendant then choked his 29-year-old colleague, lifted him up against the wall and threw him to the ground, ripping his uniform.
"He then turned to me and started choking me as well before he pushed me hard and kicked me on the knee," said the officer.
The men called for back up to restrain and arrest the defendant.
Both officers were taken to Rashid Hospital where a medical report revealed they sustained minor injuries, bruises and scratches.
In court last March, the defendant denied charges of assaulting officers, damaging a police uniform, breaching the modesty of two women, committing an act of indecency, insulting the women and consuming alcohol without a licence.
"They came into my house and into my bedroom where I was lying on bed and one of them choked me so I had to defend myself and struggle to free myself from his grip," the defendant told judges of his interaction with the police.
Dubai Criminal Court found him guilty of assaulting officers and damaging a police uniform, and sentenced him to a year in prison to be followed by deportation.

Judges also ordered his referral to the Court of Misdemeanours to face charges of breaching the modesty of two women, committing an act of indecency, insulting the women and consuming alcohol without a licence.
