A man exposed himself to two sisters then choked and assaulted two police officers who were trying to arrest him, Dubai Criminal Court was told.

On September 16, 2016, the two women – whose ages and nationalities were not disclosed in court records – were returning to their flat in the Tecom area when the Ugandan defendant, 38, who lived in the same building, exposed himself to them and insulted them.

The sisters, who said they had never previously spoken to the man, called police and told them they suspected he was drunk.

“We didn't find him outside so went to his apartment where we found him heavily drunk and tried to calm him down,” said a 23-year-old Emirati policeman who reported to the incident.

He said the defendant choked his 29-year-old colleague, then lifted him up against the wall before throwing him to the ground and ripping his uniform.
"He then turned to me and started choking me as well before he pushed me hard and kicked me on the knee," said the officer.

The men called for back up to restrain and arrest the defendant.

Both officers were taken to Rashid Hospital where a medical report revealed they sustained minor injuries, bruises and scratches.

In court on Sunday, the defendant denied charges of assaulting officers, damaging a police uniform, breaching the modesty of two women, committing an act of indecency, insulting the women and consuming alcohol without a license.
"They came into my house and into my bedroom where I was lying on bed and one of them choked me so I had to defend myself and struggle to free myself from his grip," the defendant told judges of his interaction with the police.
The next hearing is scheduled for March 25.
