Driver molested schoolboy on trip home from mosque, court hears

The victim claimed the defendant had repeatedly offered to drive him home after Al Fajr prayers.

DUBAI// A Pakistani man molested a 16-year-old boy while giving him a lift home from the mosque, the criminal court heard.

E A, 51, who worked as a driver, became acquainted with the Algerian boy after their daily Al Fajr prayers at the mosque in Al Rashidiya.

The boy said the defendant repeatedly offered to drive him back to his house, but he declined as he lived nearby.

The fifth day of being asked, the victim agreed to E A’s demands and got into his car.

The boy said that on the drive home, E A kissed and molested him.

The next few days, the defendant kept on driving the boy to his house and molesting him on the way. Eventually, the boy’s father noticed him exiting the defendant’s car.

“I asked him what he was doing in the man’s car so he told me what had been happening, I told him its wrong,” said the father, who called the police a week later.

He added that previously the boy had been receiving psychiatric treatment for an obsessive-compulsive disorder in which he would complete the same action - such as ablution for prayer - several times.

E A denied the charges. A verdict is expected on February 27.
