DUBAI // A driver who sexually abused his former employer’s teenage son has been jailed for seven years.

The 26-year-old Pakistani worked for an Emirati family for a month until he was sacked in April last year.

The victim’s father became concerned that something was wrong with his 13-year-old son when he became tense after receiving a phone call last September.

“I asked my son who the caller was and he claimed it was his friend, but I took his phone and found that it was the driver who called him,” said the father. He said he found a voice message from the man asking his son to meet him.

“I asked why was he meeting with the driver after he had left working for us. He said he and his friends were still using his services to drive them around but I felt something was wrong,” he said.

The boy later admitted that the driver was sexually abusing him.

“He told me the driver molested him once in the car and made a recording of the incident, after which he started blackmailing him and molested him several more times,” he said.

The boy told police he was afraid to inform his parents about the abuse but managed to delete the clip the driver made of him, after which he stopped answering his calls. The driver denied the charges of sexual assault and issuing threats.

He was convicted and will be deported after completing his sentence.
