DUBAI // The first phase of a monitoring system for the emirate's water network was recently launched. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has begun working on the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (Scada) centre for water transmission at Dewa's Sustainable Building in Al Quoz.

The Scada centre will regulate water supply and manage the water transmission network in Dubai covering a distance of over 2,500 km as well as several pumping stations and reservoirs.

“The new control centre will play a pivotal role in strengthening Dewa’s capacity to improve monitoring of our systems across the emirate and ensure quick response to emergencies,” said Saeed Al Tayer, Dewa’s chief executive.

The first phase of the Scada centre will enhance operational control of the water transmission network across Dubai. The network will be efficiently and fully controlled round the clock through automatic valves and pumps equipped with remotely operated engines. This will help identify and isolate any faults in the shortest possible time and reduce wastage of water in the network.

The second phase will provide an emergency control room in addition to a hydraulic management programme over the Internet, and a simulator system for training operating staff and engineers to manage the system to the highest level of efficiency.
