DUBAI // More than 100 kilometres of cycle tracks have been laid by the Roads and Transport Authority as part of its strategy to expand the emirate's bike-lane network by 50km a year.

"Cycling tracks constructed include a 23km-long track along Jumeirah street, 1.4km track along Street No 7, linking Jumeirah street with Al Mankhool Street, 1.6km track at the Mall of the Emirates station and a 67km track spanning Seih Assalam Road and Al Qudra Road," said Maitha bin Udai, the chief executive of the authority's Traffic and Roads Agency.

There is also a medical clinic on Al Qudra track and the authority added 11km of track at the heart of Bur Dubai along Al Fuhaidi, Al Falah, Al Ghubaiba and Al Hisn roads.

There are plans to build more tracks in Al Barsha, Al Khawaneej, Al Warqaa, Al Quoz Three, Al Sufouh, Al Mamzar Park, Mushrif Park and Hor Al Anz East.

It is also considering building cycle tracks in new residential developments, parks and around shopping malls.

"The cycling track project was a result of a comprehensive study commissioned by the RTA in the context of its strategic plan based on several key aspects," Ms bin Udai said.
