The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi travelled to Muscat to meet the father of an Omani student who died after being stabbed in London.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, visited the home of businessman Abdullah Al Araimi on Thursday evening.
Mohammed Al Araimi died after being attacked in the Knightsbridge in an altercation. Police are still investigating and the full circumstances are yet to be established.
Sheikh Mohamed extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, state news agency Wam reported.
Mr Al Araimi, who runs the well-known Al Raid Group of companies, thanked the Crown Prince for his visit.
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, also offered his condolences in person.
Mohammed Al Araimi was studying politics and economics at King’s College London.
He was walking in the street with a friend after a meal when the two men were attacked just after midnight.
Police believe the "motive for this cowardly attack was robbery" but said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
Officers said the two victims were "entirely blameless".
The friend was treated in hospital and later released.
In a statement on Thursday, the Al Araimi family said they were devastated by the loss.
“Last Friday, December 6, will be etched in the minds of our close-knit family forever," the family said.
"While going about our daily lives in Muscat, we had little idea of the tragic and unexpected events unfolding in London that have irreversibly changed the course of our family’s lives.
"Our hearts are eternally broken."
