DUBAI // A window cleaner accused of peeking at a woman while she was showering was today acquitted at the Dubai Criminal Court.
MJ, a 28-year-old from Bangladesh, was accused of watching JJ, a 38-year-old Filipina interior designer, while she was taking a shower on April 16. He denied a charge of sexual assault when he appeared last month.
The Filipina claimed she had shut the bathroom window before her shower but that she later noticed it had reopened half way. She said she kept an eye on the window and that after a short while she noticed the cleaner trying to open it.
However, the window cleaner denied the accusation. "No this did not happen, I was just cleaning the glass windows of the building at Dubai Sports City," he told the judges at his first hearing.

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.
