UAE resident arrested for importing e-cigarettes filled with drugs

The vape pods were concealed in a bag of sweets

A UAE resident has been arrested for importing e-cigarette pods containing cannabis extract into the country.

Eight vape pods filled with CBD oil, which is a cannabidiol, were found in a package that arrived for the American national, 26, at the Dubai International Airport, heard judges of Dubai Criminal Court.

The pods were concealed inside a bag of sweets.

“In the early hours of March 4, I was checking FedEx packages when I suspected the one carrying the defendant’s name and phone number,” said a customs inspector.

“The box contained a pair of shoes, sun glasses and a bag of sweets, inside which I found the pods.”

The man was arrested after he arrived at a FedEx office to pick up the box.

He was referred to Dubai police’s anti-narcotics department where a test detected traces of Tetrahydrocannabinol in the man’s urine.

He was charged for importing and using drugs. He has denied the charges.

The next hearing is on September 21.
