More than 20,000 crimes were reported in Dubai's oldest district last year, new figures show.
Dubai Police recorded a 72 per cent decrease in 'serious crimes' in Bur Dubai, without providing a breakdown of the figures.
Increased surveillance, street policing and quick response times all contributed, said Maj Gen Khalil Al Mansouri, assistant police chief for criminal investigations.
The 'Policeman in Your Neighbourhood' helped to close gaps and solve crime in residential areas.
In total 20,900 offences were recorded in Bur Dubai, the force said in a post on Facebook. Figures for the whole city were not released.
In 2018, the latest year for which emirate-wide figures are available, police recorded 33.4 'major crimes' per 100,000 people. The force includes personal theft, vehicle theft and burglary as major crimes.
There were 12.1 drug offences, 13 thefts and 3 house burglaries per 100,000 people. The figure for assaults was 1.4 and just 0.1 for murders.
Dubai is in the top ten safest cities to live in, according to global research website Numbeo. The emirate moved up from 11th spot in 2018, to 6th last year. The annual study placed Abu Dhabi in the top spot for safest city in the world in 2018 and 2019.
The study collected data from 69,756 sources in 5,220 cities.
Measurements include residents' perception of feeling safe walking by day and night and fear of being physically attacked by strangers.
