SHARJAH // Police yesterday arrested the father of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl and accused him of sexually assaulting and beating her to death. The girl died last week, a few hours after being taken to a private hospital in the emirate. The Filipino mother and Egyptian father, who had brought their daughter to the hospital, admitted the father had violently beaten the baby but denied sexually assaulting her.
The body has been sent to a police forensic laboratory in order to discover if there had been any sign of sexual assault. In a similar case in 2008, an Indian man in his 30s was arrested and accused of beating his 43-day-old daughter to death. That case is still being heard in Sharjah Court. The Indian man, RS, 30, was charged with murder after his child died from internal bleeding which had started a day earlier.
