ABU DHABI // Four people have been arrested in Al Ain for scamming and robbing pedestrians.

Al Ain Police said the suspects, from an unspecified African country, would offer rides to pedestrians standing on the side of the road and steal their money.

Brig Gen Mohammed Al Rashidi, head of Al Ain Police directorate, said one of the suspects had arrived in the UAE last week on a visit visa, then rented a sedan to carry out the robberies with three accomplices.

Police received reports from Asian victims about the scams and robberies. An investigation team was formed and the suspects were arrested.

Brig Gen Al Rashidi called on members of the community to avoid using unlicensed transport and riding with strangers in private vehicles.
