A man who posed as a criminal investigations officer to gain access to a woman's home then raped her was sentenced to six years in prison on Sunday.
The victim told the court that at on January 26, the 24-year-old unemployed Pakistani defendant and his countryman knocked on the her door and pretended to be CID officers.
She told the court that she opened the door for the two men and, thinking they were police officers, co-operated and answered their questions.
"But I panicked when they locked the door after which they started threatening me with knives and demanded I hand them all the cash in my possession," said the woman, whose age and nationality were not disclosed in court records.
The woman said one of the men raped her and then both of them stole Dh720 and a Samsung phone from her.
She said the men panicked after hearing screams coming from outside her fourth floor flat in Naif and tried to escape.
"One of the men ran towards the balcony to run away, and tried to climb down the pipes but he fell to his death," the victim told the court. She said she seized the moment and unlocked the door to her flat and ran out.
Passers-by who saw the dead man, called police to report a falling incident. When police arrived, they found the 24-year-old Pakistani standing next to his friend's dead body.
"Upon questioning him, he told us that they were at a woman's apartment and that they raped and robbed her," said a police officer.
Police arrested the man and, three days, later tracked down the woman and asked her to report to a station to give her testimony. She told the court she was too afraid to report the incident to police herself.
At Dubai Criminal Court last July, the defendant admitted to raping the woman and said he was drunk at the time.
He was convicted of rape, impersonation and theft and sentenced to five years in prison for rape and to one year for impersonation and theft.
He will be deported after serving his term but can appeal his sentence within the next two weeks.

Who was Alfred Nobel?
