Man fined for threatening to kill, cut up and bury wife

A French investor is fined Dh1,000 for making threats to his Canadian wife in April this year using phone, email and text messages.

DUBAI // A man who threatened to cut his wife into thousand pieces, burn her and bury her seven feet below ground, has been fined Dh1,000.

Frenchman NA, a 36-year-old investor, made the threats to his Canadian wife AJ, a 29-year-old Emirates hostess, in April this year using phone, email and text messages.

The couple, who were married in 2010, are going through a divorce.

The Frenchman said that he made the threats after his wife insulted him, but that he did not mean what he said. His wife reported him to police on April 8 at Al Qusais police station where he was taken into custody for a day before being released on bail.

The wife said that the couple's problems had started because of her husband's drug use. "We separated but in February this year - I came to Dubai to take on the air hostess job and he told me via email that he was coming too because he had business here," the wife told the court.

She said when the two met he asked for her passport and birth certificate so he could start divorce procedures at the Canadian embassy.

"He called me few days later and told me he would not return my documents and that he wanted me to have trouble," said the wife, adding that after this, he started sending her the threatening messages.

She said he asked her to pay him Dh14,000 to return her passport.

The husband denied her allegations of drug consumption and said the problems started because of her indecent clothing. "I lost her documents on April 4 and I informed her but she did not believe me. I'm sure she means to blackmail me with this."
