Man caught trying to leave the UAE with stolen cash

The man allegedly stole Dh25,000 from this flatmate's safe.

DUBAI // A man was arrested trying to leave the country after allegedly stealing Dh25,000 from his flatmate.

The victim, of Arab origin, called police after noticing that the money in his safe was missing. He said he tried to call his compatriot several times but his mobile phone was switched off.

“Police officers checked the suspect’s name and found that he had passed the passport control area at Dubai airport,” said Col Yousuf Al Adidi, director of Al Qusais Police Station.

An arrest warrant was issued for the man and he was apprehended at an airport trying to leave the country with the money. 

The man admitted to stealing from his friend during police questioning, saying he has financial problems.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution.
