Man allegedly warned he would post intimate recordings of woman online

A landlord secretly filmed his tenant and threatened to share the footage online, a court heard.

The 47-year-old Jordanian businessman had leased an apartment to the woman, who he had known for two years, and allegedly spied on her with cameras he had place in the home.

Dubai Criminal Court was told the defendant blackmailed the 49-year-old woman after she refused his sexual advances and told his wife about his behaviour.

"My son and I were having dinner at his place when he touched me and told me he wanted to have sex," said the woman.

The woman said she then called the defendant's wife to tell her of his actions, prompting him to call her and threaten to post the intimate footage online, showing her naked while in the apartment.

The woman reported the matter to police and the defendant was arrested.

The defendant denied charges of sexual assault, making threats to defame and breaching privacy, when he appeared at Dubai Criminal Court.

The case is due back at court on March 12.
