Jail for runaway maid in Dubai who turned to prostitution after falling pregnant

Maid who ran away and became a prostitute after falling pregnant is sentenced to a year in prison.

DUBAI // A maid who turned to prostitution after falling pregnant and absconding from her employer has been sentenced to a year in prison.

ND, 35, from Indonesia, fell pregnant by her boyfriend in December last year and was pressured by him into taking a herbal abortion. When it failed she ran away to a friends house, fearing punishment if her employer found out about the baby.

She then prostituted herself to two men to cover her living expenses.

In despair at her situation, she handed herself into police.

She will be deported after serving her jail term.
