DUBAI // A driver who had been drinking alcohol before going for a walk in International City sexually assaulted a woman returning home late at night, a court heard this morning.

The 22-year-old defendant MM, from Pakistan, confessed before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance and awaits a verdict on May 29.

The victim, a 30-year-old Filipina cashier, told prosecutors that on April 2, she was walking to her apartment after finishing her shift at her job. She testified that she saw the defendant walking with another man in International City’s French neighbourhood.

When they passed her, prosecutors said, MM reached out and touched the woman's groin.

She started screaming and several nearby security officers chased the two men and caught the man with MM. That man then led police to MM.

Police said he confessed during investigations and said that he was drunk, records show.
