DUBAI // A woman's lover called police fearing for his life after her family returned home and threatened him, a court heard this week.
RH, 29, accompanied HA, 24, to her family's villa in Al Warqaa to continue a drinking session after a night at a club, prosecutors told the Misdemeanours Court.
But shortly after their first drink, the woman's sister and brother-in-law started banging on the door.
"I will kill you and show you how men are," the brother-in-law told the man, a businessman who owns a car repair shop.
Terrified, he kept the door bolted and called police for protection.
The businessman and the woman, both Emiratis, were arrested on suspicion of having sex outside of marriage and drinking alcohol.
"I'm not guilty, she allowed me into her house," the businessman said. "I went there many times, I know every single member of her family residing there."
He said they had not had sex, but admitted he had slept at the house on several occasions because they were friends.
Prosecutors said the incident took place on October 27 last year after the couple had been partying at Casper's nightclub at the Crowne Plaza hotel.
They said the pair had met two years before when the woman was going through a divorce.
Since then they were said to have met several times at hotels, clubs and had travelled abroad together.
During prosecution interviews the woman denied having a relationship with the businessman.
She claimed he had arrived on her doorstep demanding payment for work his repair shop had carried out on her vehicle.
"I didn't let him into my room nor did I have sex with him," she said. She claimed the businessman was suffering from delusions that he had a relationship with her.
But the businessman said she was lying. "This is not true, we went to Lebanon and Thailand together, I have naked pictures of her on my phone," he said.
The pair were charged with having consensual sex and with consuming alcohol illegally.
The woman denied the charges but the businessman was not present to enter a plea.
Both were acquitted of the consensual sex charge, but the businessman was convicted of consuming alcohol illegally and sentenced to three months in prison.
