Angry son who threatened to blow up mother's Dubai home is spared jail

The man was handed a suspended prison sentence after his mother called for charges to be dropped

A vengeful son who threatened to blow up his mother's home and vandalised his sister's two cars has been spared jail.

The 32-year-old flew into a fit of rage after his mother asked one of his friends to leave the family villa in Al Rashidiya, Dubai.

He stormed out of the property, only to return later with a gas cylinder which he threatened to use to set off an explosion.

He smashed the windows of two vehicles belonging to his sister during the incident on April 21.

He was also accused of breaking into a safe in the home and stealing Dh23,000, a charge he denied in court.

“My daughter and I went to our bedroom and found it in a mess. Our safe was damaged and Dh23,000 stolen” said the accused's mother.

Police were alerted and the man, from Oman, was arrested the same day, with the stolen cash recovered.

“Yes I threatened her, I was extremely angry,” said the man when admitting charges of issuing threats and damaging property at Dubai Criminal Court earlier this month.

The mother asked the court to drop charges against her son.

The defendant was handed a suspended three-month prison sentence during a hearing on Thursday, but will be deported from the country as a result of his conviction.
