Man was arrested on suspicion of trespassing by police in Dubai

An arrested American man banged his head against a wall and told police they would have to 'break both his legs' in order to take him into a custody cell, a court heard.

Police in Dubai were called out after receiving reports the 51-year-old had trespassed onto private property on March 15.

The man was brought to Bur Dubai Police Station for questioning, where he falsely claimed he had been assaulted during his arrest.

“I ordered an ambulance for him and there were no signs of physical assault on him,” said a police captain based at the station.

Dubai Criminal heard the man banged his head against a wall before throwing himself to the floor in an effort to prevent police from taking him to a holding cell.

“He fell to the floor, refusing to be taken to his detention cell, saying officers could only take him there if they broke both his legs,” said the captain.

The accused hurled insults at officers who eventually brought him under control and took him to a cell.

The court was told the man subsequently apologised for his behaviour.

He admitted charges of resisting arrest and insulting and threatening police officers at a hearing on Monday.

The case was adjourned until July 8.
