DUBAI// A cook has claimed that a woman he is accused of raping made up the story after the two had a heated argument.

“I didn’t rape her, we had an argument after which she claimed I raped her,” said WW, 23, the Sri Lankan defendant at the Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday morning.

He was charged with rape, issuing death threats and with consuming alcohol. “I didn’t threat[en] her but I had few beers,” he said in court.

Prosecutors said that on May 4, the Belorussian victim, 33, was at her boyfriend’s residence when the defendant, who resides in the same flat, came to her and asked her about her friend’s whereabouts.

“It was 9am when he came asking about my friend, I told him she was at work, he then pushed me into the room and locked the door hiding the key in his pocket,” said the woman.

Prosecutors said that he had picked up a knife from the kitchen before he went to the woman which he used to threaten her with to scare her into having sex with him.

“He said he wanted to have sex with me so I refused, he then pushed me waving the knife in my face asking me whether I prefer to be killed or raped,” said the woman in records.

She tried to talk him into taking all her cash and jewellery instead but she claimed that he insisted on raping her. She tried to escape his grip but he had her by the hair and pointed the knife at her throat.

She said he turned off the lights except those of the toilet and had the time to use protection before he allegedly raped her.

“I told him that my friend’s roommate has another key and would come any minute and unlock the door, so he returned the key he hid to the door,” she said adding that she managed to distract him and run out of the room.

She went to security personnel who called police.

“A woman came crying to me during my night shift not morning shift and told me that a man had raped her,” testified the Pakistani security guard SS, 36.

“When I spoke to him, he said she was framing him because he discovered she was cheating on her boyfriend who is his friend.”

The defendant was drunk when police arrived.

The criminal lab report said that DNA traces taken from the knife’s handle matched those of the alleged victim not the defendant.

The next hearing will be on October 27.
