DUBAI // Indian workers will receive free health care as part of a tie-up between their consulate in Dubai and two Indian companies.
The clinics will begin on April 20 and will be open to any Indian who registers at the consulate between 4.30-6.30pm every first and third Wednesday of the month.
The service is likely to attract more than 100 "economically weak" people a day, said MP Singh, the consul for labour and welfare.
"This pilot project is being tested in the consulate premises and depending upon results achieved, this could be replicated in Sharjah and Ajman," he said. "Two leading Indian businesses have come together to help the Indian community in this unique programme."
The clinics are being organised by Aster, which will provide the medical experts for treatments, while the jewellery chain Malabar Gold will donate approximately Dh300,000 worth of pharmaceuticals.
The initiative was announced yesterday to mark World Health Day. The clinics will initially be available for six months and will later be extended at the Dubai consular premises.
