My journalism lesson of the week is to ask those important questions: Why? What? Where? When and who? Whether it s for a blog or a news story, I should always have the answers to questions.
Usually, I find the answers are there but it needs that little bit of extra digging, examples include calling marketing officials or asking for the exact price of a product — no matter how seemingly small the task, it needs to be done.
I submitted work that lacked such essential information and being mentored is very helpful to learn how to avoid such pitfalls. Another useful tip I received is that I should remind myself to read-out-loud every sentence I write, no matter how weird it looks to others.
