DUBAI // A Swedish man must see out his 10-year jail sentence for cocaine smuggling, the Dubai Court of Appeal has ruled.

A A, 49, was arrested at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 with more than six kilograms of cocaine wrapped around his leg in a cast.

He confessed to a charge of smuggling 6,280kgs of cocaine at Dubai Criminal Court last August. He told the court he had been promised some of the drugs in return for smuggling them from Brazil.

AHA, a 33-year-old Emirati policeman, said that at around 11pm on March 13 last year A A was spotted acting suspiciously.

When he was approached, A A claimed that his leg was broken, hence the cast, the officer said.

“The arresting officer told me that A A offered him US$100 (Dh367) to let him go,” said A H A.

A H A said in his testimony that A A confessed to carrying the drugs from Brazil and was planning on leaving them in a toilet at the airport.

A fine of Dh50,000 and a deportation order against A A were also upheld by the court.
