ABU DHABI // Residents are being encouraged to register for the e-Portal programme, which will cut the time spent going through passport control to just 20 seconds.

Emiratis, GCC citizens, residents and anyone with a border-delivered visit visa may register for the programme by having their eyes, hands and passport information scanned.

Registration stands will be open from 10am to 10pm at six shopping centres in Abu Dhabi starting from tomorrow: Marina Mall (June 9-13), Abu Dhabi Mall (June 23-27), Al Wahda Mall (July 7-11), Al Khalidiyah Mall (July 21-25), Mushrif Mall (August 4-8); Delma Mall (August 18-22) and Bawabat Al Sharq Mall (September 1-5).

Maj Gen Ahmed Nasser Al Risi, director general of central operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said the project was unique and the UAE was the "first country in the world to adopt a mechanism that registers three vital prints - eye scan, hand scan and face scan".

The first phase of the project has been launched at Abu Dhabi International Airport and will be rolled out ot airports across the emirates in the future.
