DUBAI // A cleaner has been setentenced to six months in jail for a series of sexual assaults on a female colleage who tried to kill herself to escape the attacks.
Bangladeshi F A, 30, was convicted of sexual assault by the Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday.
Indonesian victim A A, 24, tried to commit suicide after being attacked several times by F A at their sponsor’s home in Hatta.
“We both work for the same sponsor. F A keeps following me around the house and comes to my room often. He asked me for my phone number and I told him I didn’t have one then he repeatedly asked me to have sex with him but I said no. Then I just stabbed myself to escape his attempts,” testified the woman.
A A, who did not seriously injure herself in the suicide attempt, added that on September 22 this year F A walked towards her holding a cigarette. “He asked to have sex with me, I said no, then he put out his cigarette in my left shoulder then touched my breast.”
She headed to her room then told her sponsor who called police. Records did not mention more information about A A’s injury.
In court last month, F A denied a charge of molestation and another of physical assault. “I don’t even smoke,” F A told judges.
However, he was convicted of both charges. F A will be deported after completing his jail sentence.
