ABU DHABI // A widow claimed she only attended what police described as an “indecent party” because she was grieving over her dead husband.
J B, from China, was arrested with her friend J W, also from China, after police raided the Christmas party at a villa. On Monday, J B told the Criminal Court that J W had invited her to the party because he knew she was grieving. “So he invited me to cheer me up,” she said.
Police claimed the couple were beautifying the sin – a charge relating to romantic but non-sexual liaisons between two people who are not married or engaged to be married – when arrested.
“What about you why did you go to the party? Your husband died too?” Chief Justice Sayed Abdul Baseer asked J W.
“No I was just accompanying her, she’s my friend,” he replied.
Their defence attorney Fayza Moussa asked for an adjournment to present evidence.
The case was adjourned until May 25.
