DUBAI // China’s consul general in Dubai has expressed her regret over the killing of a Chinese man in Deira but lauded the authorities’ swift action to arrest the suspect.

In a video message posted on Dubai Police’s YouTube channel Li Lingbing said in fluent Arabic: “A few days ago, this painful incident took place and this is something that, of course, worries the Chinese people, but in less than 24 hours, Dubai Police investigated the crime and arrested the suspect.”

She also assured the Chinese expatriates that Dubai is safe and that the consulate, along with Dubai Police, will continue to provide them with security.

“More and more Chinese people are coming to Dubai to visit, tour and work, and we are confident that Dubai Police will and has the ability to exert maximum security efforts to safeguard the lives and belongings of the Chinese people, and all residents,” Ms Li said.

Last Thursday a 21-year-old Chinese company messenger was stabbed to death for the Dh1.2 million he had in his possession. A married couple and another man, all Algerian, have been arrested.
