The Friends of Cancer Patients Society launched its 2014 Zakat campaign to raise funds for Muslims who cannot afford treatment.
Last year, 169 cancer patients benefited from the funds generated by the campaign.
Ameera Binkaram, president of the board of trustees and a founding member of the Friends of Cancer Patients society, said: “Zakat has been a tremendous source of hope for thousands of cancer patients in the UAE who need support to get through this life-changing illness.
“We are eternally grateful for the significant contributions received, and are appreciative of the concerned individuals and corporate houses for their generous donations to the Zakat campaign, allowing us to save more lives.”
Donations will cover all major types of cancer. Some of the treatment costs covered by the Zakat initiative are chemotherapy, general medical expenses from early detection to surgery, the cost of procedures done abroad, and the provision of prosthetic limbs and other medical equipment.
Each case is individually reviewed and approved by the society in accordance with the established regulations and Zakat rules.
Over the past 15 years, the society has supported to 950 patients and families whose lives have been affected by cancer, along with promoting awareness about early detectable signs and symptoms.
SMS donations can be made by sending ZAKAT to 4219 to donate Dh5 or 4425 to donate Dh10.
