DUBAI // Two brothers who claimed to be police officers before raping two women were jailed for three months on Wednesday.
The Dubai Criminal Court heard that on April 20, the Emirati brothers, A D, 34, and B D, 27, and a third man, A A, 19, who holds a Comoros Islands passport, walked into a flat in Bur Dubai and claimed to be Dubai Police officers. Prosecutors said they dragged four Sri Lankans – the women, Y D, 40, and P S, 26, and two men, K R, 26, and N M, 38 – from the flat to a car claiming they were taking them to a police station because they were reported for absconding from their sponsors.
Prosecutors said they assaulted the two men before they kicked them out of the car and drove away with the two women.
The women testified that at one point the men stopped the car, removed its number plate then resumed driving.
They were taken to a villa in Al Quoz, where they were raped.
One of the women, Y D, said when one of the rapist finished, he pulled off her necklace. He later stopped a taxi and asked the driver to take her home.
“When I arrived [home] I saw a police car and knew that K R and N M had called police,” she said.
Police asked the taxi driver to guide them to the villa, where the other victim, P S, was still being held.
She said she was raped twice by one of the men and once by another.
All the men denied the charges against them in court. The two Emirati brothers both said that the sex was consensual.
DNA traces matching that of the brothers was found in the villa. Forensics said an examination of the women proved recent sexual activity.
AA was found not guilty of aiding and abetting and all three were acquitted of kidnap and physical assault charges. But the brothers were found guilty of sexual assault and jailed for three months.
