A 9-year-old boy has drowned off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah while out with his family.
The Emirati boy was in the waters with his two older brothers when their mother raised the alarm at 8pm on Tuesday night.
The boy's two older brothers were rescued, but he could not be saved.
Brig Gen Salem Bukhatameen Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said that police patrols and an ambulance rushed to the scene.
"When we got there and pulled the child out of the seawater, he was dead already because he had swallowed large quantities of water," said Capt Tareq Mohammed Al Sharhan, head of RAK Police's rescue department.
He said that the body of the third-grader was moved to hospital and was given to the family on Wednesday morning.
Funeral prayers were carried out at Al Shatti mosque, following which the child was buried in Khat graveyard in the emirate.
Brig Gen Al Suwaidi expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the child and called on parents to pay attention to their children and not leave them unsupervised, specifically when in the sea.
