SHARJAH // A four-year-old boy died on Monday after falling from a Sharjah apartment building – the third such death in less than two weeks.

The Egyptian boy fell from a flat on the 19th floor of a building in Al Nahda on Monday morning.

Police sent emergency crews to the building after the accident was reported at 6.30am, and the child’s body was taken to Kuwaiti Hospital in Sharjah.

Col Sultan Al Khaial, head of public relations at Sharjah Police, urged parents to take extra precautions and to install safety devices on windows and balconies to keep their children safe.

“Parents should monitor the movement of the children at all times,” Col Al Khaial said.

“Windows and balconies should be secured to prevent these tragedies from happening again.”

He said families should not leave furniture or objects near windows or balconies.

Five days ago, Shalina Sanjay, 12, died after falling from the balcony of her parents' third-storey flat in Al Nabba.

The Grade 6 pupil from Indian Excellent Private School was believed to have been left alone in the apartment.

And last month a boy, 7, was also left unattended and fell eight floors from a balcony at his family's home.

Witnesses said he had been trying to feed pigeons at the time.
