There are many ways to flaunt your wealth. Your Rolex watch, set with bedazzling diamonds, can point to your stature, and your Hermes Birkin handbag can signify your upscale fashionable flair. Or, you could take it to another extreme, and impress your peers by styling your pet bird with a glamorous headpiece.

A Japanese jewellery designer named Miwako Yanagisawa debuted her falcon hoods at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition this year. Her gold-plated creations are set with dazzling gemstones — but will UAE falcon-owners seriously consider splurging on glorified falcon hats?

Some probably will. Having endless funds at your disposal, after all, can get tiresome. After decking out your home with rare and ostentatious decor, splurging on customising your flashy vehicles and dressing your children in logo-adorned shoes, how do you spend your leftover money?

There can come a point where you think you’ve exhausted all possible means of accessorising — and that’s when investing in jewellery for your falcon could potentially sound like a good idea.

Yanagisawa’s falcon headpieces cost up to Dh60,000. If you’re a woman, you might consider spending that cash on a hand-embellished Elie Saab couture gown, or on a classic white gold and diamond bracelet from Tiffany & Co. But perhaps these fashion offerings lose their magic when they become mainstream, mass-market pieces. A gold-plated emerald-, sapphire-, diamond- and tourmarine-studded hood worn by your falcon however, will be a far more remarkable investment.

For the person who has literally everything, perhaps it’s only natural for them to adorn their pets and predatory birds with some of their riches. Plus, the falcon is the national bird of the UAE, and it embodies characteristics like force and courage — so isn’t it only fair that it’s fitted with magnificent armour to match its inherent grandeur?
